PHOENIX — The suspect in a shooting that killed an Arizona Department of Public Safety trooper and injured two others was released from the hospital and booked into jail on Wednesday.
Isaac King was transported to the Fourth Avenue Jail. He was charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, multiple counts of aggravated assault, three counts of endangerment and resisting arrest.
King has not yet entered a plea.
King was accused of shooting and killing trooper Tyler Edenhofer during a struggle near a Phoenix-area highway on July 25.
The handcuffs used on King on Wednesday belonged to Edenhofer, ABC15 reported.
Edenhofer was one of multiple troopers who responded to calls of King walking along the Interstate 10 in Avondale and throwing rocks at cars. King allegedly fought with the officers for about eight minutes as they tried to detain him. He then got hold of one of the trooper’s weapons and fired two shots.
Trooper Dalin Dorris was also injured in the shooting. Trooper Sean Rodecap, whose weapon King allegedly fired, was injured in the fight.
King had a history of mental illness, according to Col. Frank Milstead, having had taken medication for anxiety and depression. He did not have a criminal history.
Court documents said that King was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the shooting. The court documents did not specify what King was alleged to be under the influence of.
Hundreds of people gathered in Phoenix on Monday night to pay their respects to Edenhofer during a candlelight vigil at the Wesley Bolin Memorial Plaza.
A public visitation was scheduled for 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Christ’s Church of the Valley in Peoria. He will be laid to rest at the church at 10 a.m. on Friday.
