PHOENIX — Today is the day: Wednesday will mark the first day of early voting for the Arizona state primary elections.

While ballots will be sent out to voters on Aug. 1, Matt Roberts with the Arizona Secretary of State’s office told KTAR News 92.3 FM that residents should expect to see them in their mailboxes within three to four days.

Voters can hand in their ballots as late as 7 p.m. on Aug, 28, the day of the primary elections, but Roberts said those who want to mail them in should do so by Aug. 22.

“Early ballots are a great way for families to get together and talk about the issues and candidates they will be voting on,” Roberts said.

“I’m very excited that voting will soon begin for so many folks across the state. It’s an exciting time for folks to get engaged in the political process.”

Independent voters can participate in the primary election if they indicate to their county recorder which ballot they want.

Roberts said if voters want to change their vote after filling out their ballot, they can call their county recorder and ask them to spoil that ballot and issue a new one.

The deadline to request an early ballot for the primary election is on Aug. 17.

The general election will be held in Arizona on Nov. 6. Early ballots for that election will be sent out in October, Roberts added.
