PHOENIX — Starting in the fall, University of Arizona undergraduate students in select tech fields will be able to take classes in Chandler.
The Tucson-based school plans to offer four courses for the fall semester and another six courses in spring 2019 at its Chandler location, 125 E. Commonwealth Ave.
“We’re thrilled to have them increase their presence here in Chandler,” Micah Miranda, the city’s economic development director, told KTAR News 92.3 FM on Wednesday.
The courses offered are requirements for four applied sciences undergraduate degrees: cyber operations, human services, informatics and network operations.
“These are degree programs that really align with our economic development strategy and help support Chandler’s reputation as the information and technology hub of the Southwest,” Miranda said.
The university is seeking applicants for adjunct instructor positions for various applied science programs. It also is looking for area businesses interested in student intern and corporate partnership opportunities.
Miranda said the city has had a working relationship with the university for about five years.
“The UofA offers a number of programs right now in Chandler, primarily around educational training for teachers,” he said. “They also have put into place a couple of new courses and boot camps to teach job-ready skills for the digital economy.”
