PETA attacks AAA for SeaWorld promotion with new Phoenix billboard

PHOENIX — Phoenix has been made the epicenter for a battle between the animal rights organization People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals and the AAA.

PETA has launched a billboard in an effort to urge to automobile club to end its promotions of SeaWorld, according to a recent press release.

The billboard shows an animated, bloody killer whale on a car’s dashboard alongside the words “AAA, Don’t Dash Orcas’ Hopes of Freedom. Stop Promoting SeaWorld.”

It was located near AAA Arizona’s headquarters on the Interstate 17 south of downtown Phoenix.

While the closest SeaWorld location to Phoenix is more than 350 miles away in San Diego, PETA claims AAA was “exploiting and killing sensitive marine mammals by extension as long as it continues to promote SeaWorld,” PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman said in a statement.

“PETA’s billboard urges AAA to hit the brakes on its shameful promotions of SeaWorld and will hopefully inspire caring people never to visit marine parks that put suffering sea animals on display.”

SeaWorld has come under fire in the past for its treatment of animals, specifically orcas, aka killer whales. It ended its whale-breeding program in 2016, but continued its signature killer whale show and other animal viewings.

PETA claims that orcas travel as far as 140 miles everyday in the wild, but at SeaWorld they “swim listlessly in circles in chemical-filled water in barren tanks that, to them, are the size of a bathtub.”
