Phoenix officer in critical condition after Cave Creek car crash

PHOENIX — An officer with the Phoenix Police Department is in critical condition after being involved in a car crash in Cave Creek on Thursday.
Sgt. Armando Carbajal with the department told KTAR News 92.3 FM that the collision occurred near Carefree Highway and Cave Creek Road.
The other driver and passenger were also transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.
The officer was initially reported as being in critical condition, but Commander Tom Van Dorn said in a tweet that the officer was in “critical but stable condition.”

It was not immediately known how the crash occurred.
The officer was on duty during the time of the crash. They were not identified.
Cave Creek Road was closed in both directions between Rancho Paloma Drive and Carefree Highway until further notice.
An investigation is ongoing.
