PHOENIX — Phoenix and Scottsdale wound up on the opposite ends of a study about stressed U.S. cities, and other Arizona places fell in between.
Research from personal finance website WalletHub put Phoenix as the most stressed city in Arizona at No. 46, while Scottsdale was far down the list of 180 cities at No. 177.
Stressed tweeners included Tucson at No. 62 and Glendale at No. 76.
The Valley got less worried with Mesa at No. 150, followed immediately by Peoria at No. 151 and Tempe at No. 152.
Gilbert and Chandler scored points for less stress, too, coming in at Nos. 168-169, respectively.
The website’s study determined which cities handled stress best and worst based on 37 metrics, including average weekly work hours, divorce rates, suicide numbers, poverty rates and housing costs.
Phoenix scored 47.81 points overall, ranking 38th in family stress, its lowest placement.
Only five other cities did better than Scottsdale’s 30.28 points. The suburb made its best showing in health and safety, finishing 171st.
Gilbert did well with one of the lowest poverty rates, tied at No. 178. The East Valley town also had one of the lowest crime rates.
Detroit was the most stressed city, scoring 63.53 points; Fremont, California, was the least stressed. The Bay Area suburb totaled 25.93 points.
