PHOENIX — Another day, another chance for storms. That’s life in the Phoenix area during monsoon season.

Storms moved north throughout the Phoenix area on Wednesday afternoon, marking the third consecutive day of rain in the Valley.

The rain was expected to continue well into the evening hours, Larry Hopper of the National Weather service told KTAR News 92.3 FM.

“Of course, some of these storms could produce damaging winds with dust storms, potentially, like we’ve had the last few days,” he said.

“With the amount of rain we’ve had in some places over the past few days, we can’t rule out the potential for some flash flooding, as well.”

A flash flood watch was in effect for most of central and southern Arizona, including Phoenix and Tucson, throughout the night.

Hopper said blowing dust was expected to be a problem depending on the direction of the storms.

“It’s going to really depend on whether the storms come from the southeast (which would bring dust) or more from the northeast,” he said. “Models are in disagreement on which may occur first.”

Hopper said the chance for showers will be diminish as the week goes on.

“The chances do look less (for Thursday) than today. … And Friday the chances go down even further,” he said.

While this week’s weather has wreaked havoc with downed power lines and flash flooding, a dip in temperatures has been a welcome effect.

Wednesday’s forecast high was for 98 degrees, the same as Tuesday’s high and nearly 10 degrees below normal.
