Just in time for the Fourth of July, the Boston Police Department treated America to a stirring version of “God Bless America” by two officers.
As of Tuesday morning, the “Cop Pool Karaoke” video posted Monday had more than 100,000 views each on the department’s Facebook and Twitter pages. It had been shared more than 2,000 times on Facebook.
The video starts with officers Kim Tavares and Stephen McNulty sitting in their patrol car chitchatting about the holiday.
The conversation turns to music before the duo decides they should perform the Irving Berlin classic while cruising through city streets.
When they break into song, it’s something to hear, including perfect two-part harmonies on the chorus.
Afterward, a call comes in over the police radio saying, “Open mic, open mic. That sounds good. Happy Fourth of July.”
