PHOENIX — The Arizona Department of Transportation has a new partner in helping make arrests: Facial recognition technology.

The department recently announced that detectives’ use of facial recognition training and technology has led to the arrest of a southern Arizona man who allegedly used two stolen identities to get driver’s licenses.

Sandro Tentory, 43, was arrested and charged with five counts of forgery after the department’s facial recognition system found two profiles of him — but with different names and dates of birth.

Detectives found that Tentory had applied for two Arizona driver licenses using the stolen information from two individuals living in Illinois.

He had maintained those IDs for the past 13 years.

Tentory was also found to have had an outstanding FBI felony warrant for weapons violations and a history of violence, including aggravated assault and selling drugs.

He was also a documented gang member of the Chicago-based “Maniac Latin Disciples.”

Tentory was arrested at his Sahuarita home on June 7 and was booked at the Pima County Jail.

Detectives found several fraudulent ID cards, credit cards, loan documents and other documents that were obtained using the fake IDs at the scene of his arrest.

We want to hear from you.
