PHOENIX — A suspect was arrested in connection to an alleged burglary that occurred earlier this month at the home where two people were killed in the Phoenix-area murder spree that claimed six lives.
Sgt. Joaquin Enriquez with the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office said that 42-year-old Keith Dees was arrested after allegedly crashing the stolen white Nissan Altima near 99th Avenue and Thomas Road in Avondale on Wednesday night.
Enriquez said the Altima and a black Mercedes-Benz were stolen from the Fountain Hills home on June 6. The Mercedes was recovered on June 8.
The home was the residence of 70-year-old Mary Simmons and 72-year-old Bryon Thomas, who were found shot and killed on June 4.
Later that day, suspected killer Dwight Lamon Jones died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound after police closed in on him at a Scottsdale hotel.
Scottsdale police said Jones and the victims in Fountain Hills met four or five years ago through tennis and would occasionally meet to play at local parks.
Dees was booked into Fourth Avenue Jail on one count of theft of means of transportation. Charges on the burglary are pending while authorities investigate.
Editor’s note: The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office said on July 25 that forensic evidence has tied Dees to the June 6 burglary in Fountain Hills and a 2014 Phoenix burglary. He is now booked into the Fourth Avenue Jail on one count of second-degree burglary.
