PHOENIX — A new Golf Channel program that showcases golf destinations around the world is putting a Phoenix suburb in the spotlight.
Host Matt Ginella was in Scottsdale last week to film an episode of “Golf Advisor Round Trip,” a golf travel series that debuted in May.
In addition to trying out the city’s golf courses, Ginella took part in a tequila tasting, mountain biked in the McDowell Sonoran Preserve and spent some time in the kitchen with celebrity chef Beau Macmillan.
“That’s why we wanted to have Ginella do all of these different activities, to show that there’s many adventures to be had in Scottsdale, on and off the golf course,” said Stephanie Pressler, community affairs manager for Experience Scottsdale, which worked on the program with the Golf Channel.
Scottsdale joined the likes of Danzante Bay on Mexico’s Baja Peninsula, South Carolina’s Myrtle Beach and Ireland on the show’s itinerary.
Ginella had some famous company during his golf outings, playing with Arizona Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald at TPC Scottsdale, PGA Tour pro Geoff Ogilvy at Grayhawk Golf Club and former Phoenix Coyotes star Jeremy Roenick at Troon North.
The 30-minute episode is scheduled to debut Oct. 23 on the Golf Channel, with rebroadcasts on Oct. 24 and 31.
Pressler said Ginella will help promote the third annual Scottsdale Golf Week, which will be held Jan. 7-13 next year.
“We really hope that viewers will be inspired to travel to Scottsdale, both during Scottsdale Golf Week in January and then beyond,” she said.
