PHOENIX — Officials with the Arizona Animal Welfare League said a 2-month-old puppy that was allegedly stolen from its facility over the weekend has been returned “safe and sound.”

The puppy, a female mixed-breed dog named Everglade, was allegedly stolen by two men around 1:15 p.m. Sunday.

She was returned by one of the men Monday night and appeared to have been cared for while she was gone.

“She looks healthy, energetic and is eating,” representative Amanda Ventura said in an email.

“AAWL scanned her microchip and she is a match.”

Ventura said the shelter will not be pressing charges because one of them men returned her safely.

“One of the men in the security footage saw the news stories and immediately called the shelter,” Michael Morefield, the shelter’s director of marketing and communications, said in a statement.

“This puppy was returned safe and sound due to the community support.”

The disappearance of Everglade was caught on security camera footage. Officials were hoping to find her quickly because she is on daily medication and was being monitored by their medical team.

“If this puppy is returned to AAWL unharmed, we will not press charges. Otherwise, we will work with law enforcement to identify the thieves and prosecute accordingly,” Judith Gardner, president of the Arizona Animal Welfare League, said in a statement at the time.
