PHOENIX — One person was killed in a chain-reaction crash and two others were injured on Interstate 10 in west Phoenix, shutting down the eastbound freeway at 67th Avenue early Monday.
The Arizona Department of Public Safety said multiple vehicles had collided near the 51st Avenue ramp around 4 a.m. and that for a time all lanes had been blocked.
The roadway reopened shortly before 8 a.m.
Trooper Kameron Lee said that initially two cars collided and no one was hurt. After the drivers pulled over to exchange information, two other drivers stopped behind them.
But a truck hit the last of those two cars, starting a chain reaction.
In addition to the fatality, one person was seriously injured while another suffered minor injuries.
