PHOENIX — Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey has so far raised the most amount of money ahead of the state’s primary election for the gubernatorial race in August.
According to SeeTheMoneyAZ.com, the Arizona Secretary of State’s website to track campaign donations, Ducey has raised $555,565 as of Tuesday.
His Democratic counterparts, Steve Farley, David Garcia and Kelly Fryer, have raised a total of $619,463 in that same time period.
Farley has raised the most amount of money among Democrats, pulling in $265,806, while Garcia followed shortly behind with $244,300. Fryer has raised $109,357.
The only Libertarian candidate in the race, Kevin McCormick, has raised $4,244.
The primary election for the gubernatorial race will take place on Aug. 28. Those who secure their party’s seat will move on to the general election on Nov. 6.
Ducey will face former Arizona Secretary of State Ken Bennett in the Republican race. Bennett was not included in the report because there was no data available.
The Republican governor’s reelection cycle has been most notably marred by a six-day walkout led by teachers across the state to call on the Legislature to grant them higher wages and better classroom conditions.
The walkout eventually ended once Ducey signed a $10.4 billion budget bill into law that helped fund 10 percent raises for educators next year and made the first payment toward restoring nearly $400 million slashed from school building and maintenance budgets after the Great Recession.
The Arizona Education Association, one of the state’s most powerful advocacy groups for teachers, announced before the walkout that they would support Garcia, who is an Arizona State University professor.
