PHOENIX — Arizona has the 13th-best state economy in the nation, according to a recent study by a personal finance website.
WalletHub ranked the 50 states and the District of Columbia using 28 metrics across three key dimensions: economic activity, economic health and innovation potential.
The Grand Canyon State ranked No. 11 in economic activity, No. 17 in economic health and No. 14 in innovation potential.
Arizona did especially well in two categories, ranking fourth in gross domestic product growth and fifth in nonfarm payroll changes.
However, the state also lagged in two categories, ranking near the bottom in unemployment rate (46th) and average educational attainment of recent immigrants (48th).
The unemployment ranking, however, could be on the rise. Another recent WalletHub report said Arizona was fifth nationally in the category of employment growth.
Washington was No. 1 in the overall rankings, followed by Utah, Massachusetts, California and Colorado in the top five. Louisiana brought up the rear at No. 51.
