PHOENIX — Another section of the westbound Interstate 10 will be closed overnight during the weekend of June 8, the Arizona Department of Transportation announced.

The westbound portion of the freeway will be closed between 51st and 67th avenues in west Phoenix from 10 p.m. on Friday to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

This closure will allow crews to continue construction on the Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway interchange.

Crews will remove temporary structures on a concrete pier structure that will support one of the flyover bridges connecting I-10 with the interchange, according to the department.

The on-ramps at 35th and 43rd avenues will also be closed to prevent backups.

The 59th Avenue overpass will be closed in both directions and southbound 59th Avenue will be restricted from McDowell Road to I-10.

Traffic can exit the freeway at 51st Avenue, detour either north to McDowell Road or south to Van Buren Street and return to westbound I-10 at 67th Avenue.

Heavy traffic and delays were to be expected.

The I-10 will also be narrowed to one lane in both directions overnight between the Gila River Bridge and State Route 587 south of Chandler from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Wednesday nights. This will allow crews to do lane-striping work.

We want to hear from you.
