ASU ranks among world’s best universities for research, teaching

PHOENIX — One of Arizona’s three public universities has recently been recognized as one of the most powerful universities for research and teaching in the world.

The Times Higher Education’s World Reputation Rankings ranked Arizona State University within the 81-90 range on the list.

It was the only university in Arizona to make the list and was also the highest that Arizona State University has ever received in the rankings.

Arizona State University President Michael Crow praising the ranking in a statement.

“This ranking is an acknowledgement of ASU’s global impact, made possible by our world-class faculty and curriculum, ground-breaking research endeavors and commitment to sharing knowledge on a global scale.”

Arizona State University was one of five universities from the Pac-12 to be included in the list; The others were University of California, Los Angeles; University of California, Berkeley; University of Washington; and University of Colorado Boulder.

The World Reputation Rankings are “are based on the world’s largest invitation-only opinion survey of senior, published academics. It asks scholars to name no more than 15 universities that they believe are the best for research and teaching in their field, based on their own experience,” according to its website.

According to ASU Now, the survey was conducted between January and March. More than 10,000 scholars from 138 countries participated.

Harvard University took the top spot, followed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford University, University of Cambridge and University of Oxford.
