Police detectives unharmed in fatal traffic accident in Mesa

PHOENIX — Mesa Police was investigating an officer-involved traffic accident that left one person dead Wednesday afternoon.
The collision involved several vehicles, including an unmarked Mesa Police vehicle that was waiting at a traffic light. The three detectives in the police vehicle were unharmed.
The unidentified adult driver of a car that ran a red light at Main Street and Mesa Drive to cause the accident was killed.
The intersection was closed in all directions and the light rail west of Mesa Drive was shut down while the incident was under investigation.
Police asked motorists to avoid the area.
