PHOENIX — A major men’s international soccer tournament announced Monday that University of Phoenix Stadium, home of the Arizona Cardinals, will be one of its host arenas.

The 2019 CONCACAF Gold Cup, a tournament held every two years for the best national teams in North America, Central America and the Caribbean, has been unveiling its venues throughout the week.

So far, University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale has been joined by Banc of California Stadium in Los Angeles and Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field.

Plans for ticket sales haven’t been announced yet, but fans can sign up for notifications and presale offerings at GoldCup.org.

The Cardinals stadium, near Loop 101 and Bethany Home Road, was the host site for Gold Cup quarterfinals last year and also hosted the Gold Cup games in 2015.

The stadium has also hosted Copa America matches.

The United States, Costa Rica, Honduras, Mexico, Panama and Trinidad and Tobago already have earned their spots in the Gold Cup field. Ten other nations in the region will qualify later this year and early in 2019.

Next year’s CONCACAF Gold Cup will be the first with 16 teams. The tournament debuted in 1991 and has been played with 12 teams since 2000.

We want to hear from you.
