PHOENIX — Former U.S. Sen. Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.) was recently enlisted by Facebook to examine whether the social media site has a liberal bias.
According to Axios, Kyl and his team at Covington and Burling, a Washington law firm, will “examine concerns about alleged liberal bias on Facebook, internally and on its services.”
The team will get feedback from conservative groups and will use that feedback to advise Facebook on the best way to work with them moving forward.
The Heritage Foundation, a conservative public policy think tank, will also hold meetings on those issues with Facebook officials.
Civil rights leader Laura Murphy will examine civil rights issues, along with law firm Relman, Dane and Colfax.
Murphy, according to the publication, will “take feedback from civil rights groups, like The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, and advise Facebook on the best path forward.”
The moves come as Facebook deals with a privacy scandal related to access of tens of millions of users’ data by a consulting firm affiliated with President Donald Trump.
CEO Mark Zuckerberg testified before Congress on the issue last month.
Facebook also has faced criticisms over a deluge of fake news and Russian election interference.
Facebook said the feedback will help Facebook improve and serve users more effectively.
