PHOENIX — A new detox center opened its doors in the East Valley this week, providing additional resources to the region in the fight against drug and alcohol addiction.

Footprints to Recovery started accepting clients Monday to the facility at Southern Avenue and Greenfield Road in Mesa. A open house for the public and media was scheduled for June 13.

“Like much of the country, the drug and alcohol addiction epidemic we’re facing can look overwhelming at times and has taken such a toll on our communities in Arizona,” Becky Kartagener, the center’s executive director, said in a news release.

The Chicago-based company’s first detox center in Arizona, one of the largest in the state at more than 12,000 square feet, provides 24-hour medical care and supervised recovery treatment for patients from the Southwest region wanting to rid their bodies of drugs or alcohol.

“Thousands of hours have been invested into making sure every detail of our newest facility — including bringing in the best people in the country to run it — meets the highest and strictest standards of excellence from a clinical, structural and aesthetical perspective,” Eliott Wolbrom, chief marketing officer of Footprints to Recovery, said in the release.

The facility offers an array of treatment options and accepts most major insurance providers, but not Medicaid.

In addition to standard medical detox methods, Footprints said it utilizes less traditional techniques — including yoga, meditation, acupuncture and pet therapy — in treatment plans tailored individually for each client.

According to the company’s website, Footprints’ clients are primarily adults ages 18 to 27. One reason Mesa was chosen is the high number of college students in the region.

We want to hear from you.
