Suspect in fatal shooting in Surprise kills himself in New Mexico

PHOENIX — The man suspected of fatally shooting an individual in Surprise on Tuesday morning killed himself after being located in New Mexico, according to the Surprise Police Department.
The suspect, 44-year-old Michael Lee Peacock, was found near Albuquerque at around 5:30 p.m. by police before he fled on foot, taking his life a short distance from where he had been located.
The shooting victim, who was later identified as 23-year-old Surprise resident Erick Prieto, was found in a parking lot at an apartment complex on Peoria and Sarival avenues, according to police. Prieto was transported to the hospital and later died of injuries.
Peacock was suspected of shooting Prieto and fled in a 2018 Chevrolet four-door pick-up with an Arizona temporary tag of 758958A.
Surprise Police warned that Peacock was armed and dangerous.
