PHOENIX — Four Arizona breweries raised their glasses after earning medals at the prestigious World Beer Cup last week.

McFate Brewing of Scottsdale was the only state beer maker to take home the gold, winning the top spot in the Chile Beer category with its Hatch Chile Gatos.

Goodyear’s Saddle Mountain Brewing Company submitted the silver medal-winning Taildragger Clan-Destine in the Scottish-Style Ale category.

Four Peaks Brewing Co. of Tempe (Four Peaks Golden Lager in the Other International-Style Lager category) and O.H.S.O. Brewery of Phoenix (89Ale in the American-Style Amber Lager category) each earned a bronze.

McFate trumpeted its victory on Facebook.

The World Beer Cup has been held every two years since it debuted in 1996.

This year’s competition featured 101 beer style categories and drew 8,234 entries from 2,515 breweries based in 66 countries.

The awards ceremony for the event also known as the “Olympics of Beer” was held in Nashville, Tennessee, as part of the Craft Brewers Conference & BrewExpo America.
