PHOENIX — An Amber Alert was canceled Monday afternoon after a Peoria toddler was found safe and unharmed and the man accused of abducting her was taken into custody.
The Amber Alert was issued in the morning after 32-year-old Luis Jesus Morales allegedly broke into a home and took 2-year-old Khaleesi Morales. Peoria Police said Morales was the girl’s non-custodial father.
The suspect had been ordered by a court to stay away from the house on Lake Pleasant Parkway near Beardsley Road and not have contact with the little girl and her mother, Yesenia Torres.
Police said a window at the home had been broken and a screen torn out. They also said Morales stepped on his young son’s hand and attacked Torres before he grabbed the girl and stole Torres’ car.
Morales will be booked on charges of kidnapping, burglary, aggravated assault, violation of a court order and auto theft, according to authorities. Additional charges could be added or amended.
He was apprehended less than half a mile away at nail salon on Lake Pleasant Parkway.
