PHOENIX — Small businesses make up nearly 95 percent of all of the businesses licensed in Phoenix that have less than 50 workers.
The city of Phoenix thinks of small businesses as leaders and drivers of innovation.
“Small business owners and their hardworking employees represent the best of our city,” said Mayor Greg Stanton.
“We know in Phoenix that supporting our local business owners and entrepreneurs is key to building a healthy and strong economy,” Stanton said.
Small firms were attracting major new companies in areas of cyber security, self-driving vehicles and aerospace technology.
Phoenix Community and Economic Development Director Christine Mackay said the Phoenix area has such a high concentration of small businesses because of the opportunities that exist here for entrepreneurs.
“There are a lot of resources that exist here in Arizona to help those companies come up with ideas, mentor them and grow,” Mackay said.
Phoenix is home to a diverse number of small businesses. “We have a really diverse section of small businesses that are here,” Mackay said.
The businesses range from mattress manufacturers and web developers to irrigation companies.
