LISTEN: Arizona Cardinals' David Johnson launches David's Locker

PHOENIX — Wanting to bring some excitement and happiness to children who are undergoing medical treatment, Arizona Cardinals running back David Johnson and his wife donated a cart full of video games and iPads to the Phoenix Children’s Hospital.

It’s called David’s Locker.

Patients and their families will be able to use the video games and iPads free of cost.

“We want these kids to feel like kids,” Johnson said. “We want them to feel as much as they can that their childhood is still there, and they still have a chance to be children.”

He and his wife, Meghan Johnson, held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday to unveil the first cart. They were surrounded by children who are receiving treatment at the Phoenix Children’s Hospital.

Meghan said she’s hoping this will “provide some outlet of relief” for children during their stay at Phoenix Children’s Hospital.

“As parents you’re constantly worrying is your baby in pain? Is something wrong,” she said. “It’s huge for us to know that we’re providing something that can help relieve them of that.”

The couple, which recently had a baby, launched the cart through their foundation, David Johnson’s Mission 31 Foundation. They’re planning to add more carts soon.

They said providing these carts aligns with their mission to have a positive impact on children’s lives.

“It means a lot,” Johnson said. “It’s very deep in my heart to give back to kids.”

He added he and his wife grew up in small towns in Iowa, met in college, and from an early age wanted to “be involved with kids as much as we could.”

“We always said as soon as we get the chance to give back, we want to do that,” he said.

We want to hear from you.
