A drug-sniffing canine followed his nose to thwart a smuggling scheme last week that involved a mother, her 12-year-old daughter, almost $24,000 worth of cocaine and some duct tape.
According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, a 35-year-old woman was attempting to enter the United States from Mexico on Friday at the Port of San Luis in southwest Arizona with her three minor children.
When the family was referred for an additional search, the dog alerted CBP officers to the daughter.
The mother was arrested after more than 2 pounds of cocaine were found taped to the girl’s torso.
Officers seized the woman’s Nissan hatchback as well as the drugs.
The case was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
