Tempe man attempts to run Boston Marathon course four times in 24 hours

Apr 16, 2018, 11:33 AM | Updated: 12:25 pm

PHOENIX — A Tempe man was interviewed on camera Monday just before the start of the annual Boston Marathon, but he already had a few trial runs under his belt.

Henry Ward, originally from Massachusetts, decided that he was going to run the Boston Marathon course not once, but four times, and he was going to do it in 24 hours.

“It’s a challenge, you know?” he said during the interview with CBS Boston. “I think we owe it to ourselves to see what we’re capable of.”

He said that he started running on Sunday at noon and ran from the finish line to the starting point and back. He finished the two marathons at midnight and gave himself a couple of hours of rest before he started up again at 2:30 a.m. on Monday.

“I want to know what it feels like to run … for the first time in the official marathon to see my family, my friends, go past the Citgo sign and finish,” he said.

Despite the fact that he had already ran three marathons prior to the interview, Ward did not seem fatigued at all.

“There was a little bit of walking involved in the last one, but I feel pretty good, all things considered.”

We want to hear from you.
