PHOENIX — There were two officer-involved shootings on Saturday, according to the Phoenix Police Department.

A suspect is dead after being shot during a confrontation with officers, none of whom were injured, Phoenix police said.

Police Lt. Mark Tovar Sr. said the shooting occurred early Saturday after a lengthy pursuit and an unsuccessful carjacking attempt.

According to police, officers fatally wounded the suspect after he pointed a gun at them and that he’d also pointed a gun at pursuing officers earlier during the incident.

Tovar says it’s not clear if the suspect fired at the officers.

He said the incident began when police responded to shots-fired calls in north-central Phoenix and then an hour later spotted a vehicle matching a description from one involved in the shots-fired calls.

He said an ensuing chase went into southeast Phoenix, Scottsdale and back into Phoenix.

The shooting occurred near North 15th Avenue and West Thomas Road.

The second shooting occurred Saturday afternoon near Central and Southern avenues.

According to Sgt. Alan Pfohl of the Phoenix Police Department, officers were called to investigate an accident with a possible impaired driver.

When officers arrived on scene, they saw a rifle near 44-year-old Eduardo Andrade and gave him commands to not touch it. Andrade then allegedly reached for the gun, forcing one of the officers to fire his weapon while taking cover.

Andrade allegedly started shooting at officers with the rifle, forcing them to return fire. Andrade then allegedly fired at officers with a handgun.

The Phoenix Police Department’s Special Assignment Unit responded to approach the Andrade, who was pronounced dead on scene.

No additional information was immediately available.
