PHOENIX – Maricopa County Animal Care was offering the public the perfect opportunity to adopt a new furry friend for the upcoming summer months.
With only 14 kennels available between the rescue’s two facilities, the Arizona Animal Rescue Mission (AARM) donated $5,000 to cover the adoption fees for as many as 300 dogs weighing at least 20 pounds of more.
According to a release, many of the available kennels are in need of repairs and cannot be used to fulfill the population of dogs in the shelter.
For this reason, the rescue was placed in a “Code Red” situation, needing to adopt at least 200 dogs from its West facility and 100 from the East facility.
As many as 100 dogs are brought into Maricopa County shelters each day, many of which are surrendered by their owners.
The shelter and AARM were asking for the public’s assistance in adopting out the large breed animals in order to create enough space to last through the summer months, and more importantly save lives.
The free adoption will run through the weekend and end on Sunday.
Visit the shelter’s website for more information on the adoption event and to see what dogs are currently in need of a new home.
