PHOENIX –A multi-sports field complex in Laveen has been dedicated to a Phoenix police officer who gave the ultimate sacrifice.
Officer David Glasser died in the line of duty on May 19, 2016 while responding to a burglary call in the area.
Glasser’s widow Kristen said it’s a great feeling to see a beautiful athletic field complex against the South Mountains named for her husband.
“It warms my heart that he’s being recognized and honored for his sacrifice,” Glasser said.
Glasser said the complex at 51st Avenue and Dobbins Road will have a lasting impact on her and their children.
“As they get older, it’s somewhere I can bring them back to so they can see how much their dad was loved.”
Phoenix Police Chief Jeri Williams helped cut the ribbon to formally open the Glasser sports complex on Thursday.
“Talking to his mom, she said that she knows that David’s presence is here,” Williams said.
“What an amazing way to honor an amazing human who paid the ultimate sacrifice.”
The complex honors Glasser’s love for sports and a desire to support youth and the community he served.
The field’s sod was used in the 2017 Cactus Bowl game.
An electronic scoreboard was donated and installed by the Fiesta Bowl Charities.
