Walmart to invest $52 million in renovations to Arizona stores

PHOENIX – Walmart announced Thursday its plan to spend an estimated $52 million on renovations to as many as 15 stores across the state of Arizona over the next year.
The renovations stem from the company’s $11 billion investment budget for Fiscal Year 2019, and will focus on 10 stores in the Phoenix Metro area and one store in Tucson, Green Valley, Flagstaff, Payson, and Parker.
“Walmart has been long committed to investing in Arizona communities and improving the shopping experience for millions of customers statewide,” Paula Ginnett, the company’s vice president and regional manager in Arizona, said in a press release.
“Today’s announcement underscores Walmart’s continued commitment to our communities, our customers and our associates – especially those in Metro Phoenix, who will be among the biggest beneficiaries of these new improvements and innovations in 2018.”
Along with the renovations, some Arizona stores will receive several in-store and online innovations.
Online grocery pickup, which is currently available at 23 Walmart stores across the state, will be offered in 20 additional stores in the coming year.
In addition, the company will explore options for more Arizona stores to receive the Mobile Express Scan & Go feature, which allows customers to scan products in store and pay on their mobile devices to avoid checkout lines.
The company will also offer more Walmart Pickup Towers, allowing customers to scan a bar code and receive the items they ordered online in a vending machine-like fashion.
The Mobile Express Scan & Go feature is currently offered in all 12 Sam’s Clubs locations in Arizona, as well as a Walmart in Queen Creek and Yuma. Only stores in Gilbert, Mesa, Glendale and Avondale currently offer Walmart Pickup Towers.
