PHOENIX — A Tempe mom was arrested last week after her daughter ingested macaroni and cheese that was made with THC, the psychoactive component in marijuana.
Alaina Marie Limpert, 25, was arrested on April 5 after her 1-year-old daughter allegedly ingested THC butter while eating macaroni and cheese that Limpert made for her husband. Limpert didn’t know that her daughter had ingested it too.
According to Fox News and the police report, Limpert allegedly failed to take her daughter to the emergency room after the incident, instead she laughed at the side effects her daughter experienced.
Limpert also allegedly chose to place her in their pool to “shock” her with cold water.
It wasn’t until two days after later that the Department of Child Safety found out about the alleged incident.
“We were notified by [the Department of Child Safety] that the child had tested positive for THC,” said Det. Lily Duran told KTAR News 92.3 FM.
“So they were doing an investigation on there on and when they discovered this information, they reached out to us and we started to investigate the allegations,” she said.
The Tempe Police Department was also notified by the Department of Child Safety that the residence was used as a grow house for marijuana.
“Investigation then revealed, after a search warrant was obtained for that residence, that there were approximately 20 plants of marijuana inside the garage as well as other drugs and drug paraphernalia,” Duran said.
Other drugs found at the residence were psilocybin mushrooms and hash oil.
Limpert was charged with multiple crimes, including child abuse, possession of marijuana and cultivation of marijuana.
Limpert’s daughter, along with her two other children, were taken into the Department of Child Safety’s custody.
