PHOENIX — A woman was shot and killed by Phoenix police on Wednesday in what marked the 14th officer-involved shooting in Phoenix so far this year.

Sgt. Vince Lewis, a spokesman with the Phoenix Police Department, told KTAR News 92.3 FM that four law enforcement officials — one sergeant and three officers — were responding to a call of shots fired at a home in north Phoenix when they were met by the suspect.

The suspect then fired multiple shots at the officers using a rifle, Lewis said.

None of the officers were shot, but they returned fire and struck the suspect.

The suspect then went down, Lewis said. She was transported to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

There were no other injuries that occurred from the shooting, he added.

The suspect was identified Thursday as 44-year-old Alexis Stinson.

The officers were later identified as Terry Graber, Steven Golisch and William Wells. They all had between nine and 11 years of service, the department said.

Lewis said the investigation is still ongoing.

The incident in Phoenix was not the only officer-involved shooting that occurred in the Valley on Wednesday.

A man was shot and killed by Mesa police after he allegedly pulled out a gun and fired twice at officers after he was approached by police and U.S. Marshals deputies outside of a gas station.

The U.S. Marshals Office reportedly was tailing 30-year-old Kelvin Baldwin, who had a parole violation, a warrant out for his arrest and violent criminal history.

Police said Baldwin allegedly contacted his estranged wife Tuesday and made threatening statements.

Baldwin was hospitalized Wednesday in serious condition but was pronounced dead on Thursday.
