PHOENIX — Numerous Maricopa County residents and members from the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office staff have received phone calls from scammers impersonating MCSO employees, according to the MCSO.
Using personal information on MCSO staff members, including name, date of birth and phone number, the caller tells the person they are scamming that a criminal warrant has been issued, there’s money owed to MCSO for missed jury duty or there’s an unpaid fine.
MCSO will not ask for money over the phone or request to meet you in person to take your money, the department said in a press release.
If you receive an unusual call from an unrecognized number and they identify themselves as MCSO staff, never provide any personal information to the caller.
Report the phone calls to the MCSO non-emergency number at 602-876-1011.
