PHOENIX — Officials evacuated the downtown area of Globe on Wednesday after an unknown substance was found in a storefront.
In a Facebook post, the city said it evacuated multiple blocks surrounded by Sycamore, Pine, Mesquite and Hill streets. An Arizona Department of Public Safety hazardous materials team was called to the scene.
The post said the substance — officials were uncertain if it was volatile — was found in the 100 block of Broad Street, but did not specify which store.
A Google Maps search showed the storefronts on the street included a CVS Pharmacy, a clothing business, a jeweler and a theater, among others.
Globe is about an hour’s drive east of metro Phoenix.
