PHOENIX — If you didn’t get your vote in for the second-ever creative freeway sign contest, you’ll have a bit more time thanks to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

The agency said Thursday that it would extend the public vote until March 26.

“The voting period is being extended because last week, shortly after opening the contest voting period, ADOT’s website began experiencing issues that restricted use of the site, making unavailable the voting page for about three days,” a press release read.

Voting had been scheduled to close March 21.

The finalists of the second-ever clever freeway sign contest were unveiled last week.

The agency said it received thousands of entries that ranged from cheeky to somber.

“It’s great to see so much engagement from the public about safe driving,” ADOT Director John Halikowski said in a release.

“We all can become better drivers and hopefully things like the safety messages and this contest will spark conversations that make people think twice about the decisions they make when they get behind the wheel.”

Of those entries, the 15 finalists below were chosen. Two winners will be decided by the online vote.

For an entry to be considered, it had to have something to do with traffic safety and fit into three lines of 18 characters each. No hashtags, phone numbers, websites or emojis were allowed.

Some of this year’s entries included “Camping in the left lane attracts bears” and “Dance like no one is watching — drive like everyone is.”

Last year’s winning sign entries read, “That’s the temperature, not the speed limit” and, “Single in HOV? Get a real date not a court date.”

Take a look at this year’s finalists below.

We want to hear from you.
