PHOENIX — A Southwest Airlines flight from Phoenix to Dallas made an emergency landing Sunday night after pilots reported an odd smell and smoke in the cockpit.

Flight 3562 landed safely in Albuquerque and 140 passengers, along with the crew, used emergency slides to evacuate the aircraft.

Five people needed medical attention. Two of them were hospitalized.

The smoke and smell were caused by an electrical fire.

A Dallas police officer on the flight praised the actions of the crew in a tweet.

Southwest apologized to Geron in a tweet.

After the landing, the passengers were put on another aircraft to Dallas that arrived safely.

The Federal Aviation Administration was investigating.
