A car crash into a tree leaves 1 dead, 1 hurt in Phoenix

PHOENIX — One person is dead and another is hurt after a car crashed into a tree early Sunday morning in Phoenix.
According to Sgt. Alan Pfohl of the Phoenix Police Department, officers responded to reports of a single car accident near the intersection of University Drive and 40th Street around 2:30 a.m. Sunday.
The driver of the vehicle had hit a curb and lost control of the vehicle, hitting a tree nearby.
The passenger in the backseat was ejected and pronounced dead on scene, while the passenger in the front seat was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.
The driver of the vehicle was uninjured and stayed on scene to speak with police. He was later released.
No other information was immediately available.
