PHOENIX — A Cave Creek woman was arrested Thursday on the charge of attempted murder after her husband was found to have been poisoned with anti-freeze in 2017, according to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office.
On Aug. 21, 2017, Connie Eskelson claimed to have found her husband unconscious at their residence. After he was transported to a nearby hospital, tests discovered a potentially lethal dose of ethylene glycol — an active ingredient in anti-freeze — in his system. He showed no brain activity originally, but has since made a full recovery.
Homicide detectives took over the case after his family believed he was poisoned. After several months, they were able to connect Eskelson to the crime by tracking down several purchases made by Eskelson for lab-grade ethylene glycol. It is believed she poisoned her husband on a daily basis.
“MCSO is committed to providing public safety at the highest level through exceptional police work,” Sheriff Paul Penzone said. “Our investigators, Tactical Operations Unit and MCAO partners did an outstanding job. This is an example of effective collaboration resulting in the apprehension of a dangerous suspect.”
She was booked at the 4th Avenue Jail on one count of attempted murder in the First Degree and is being held on $700,000 bond.
