PHOENIX — A corrections officer in a southern Arizona county was arrested last month for allegedly transporting narcotics and promoting prison contraband, it was announced Monday.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department said Martin Lopez, a 27-year-old corrections officer, was arrested on Feb. 28.

The arrest was the result of a week-long investigation that stemmed from a tip to the sheriff’s department.

It was unclear if Lopez has a lawyer yet.

Sheriff’s officials said Lopez has been a corrections officer for about 11 months and he was on probationary status.

The investigation was initiated by a tip to the department’s office of professional standards.

Sheriff’s officials said the information was over to the criminal investigation division for further investigation.

They said the investigation is ongoing and they take a zero tolerance stance toward any allegations of criminal activity or misconduct by department members.
