PHOENIX — A Phoenix man was charged with second-degree murder after allegedly stabbing a man to death in Mesa during a weekend confrontation.
About 3 a.m. Sunday morning, Mesa police were called out to the area of Stapley Drive and Main Street where a man, later identified as 34-year-old Robert Henry Stevenson, was found unresponsive.
Authorities were told a man was sleeping in the middle of the road.
Mesa Fire and Medical pronounced Stevenson dead at the scene. He had been stabbed multiple times.
Police later located a crime scene at the Frontier Motel nearby. Investigators said there was a confrontation between Stevenson and another man, Derick Eugene Holman, at the business.
Stevenson was the ex-boyfriend of Holman’s wife.
Holman was arrested at his Phoenix home. Police said he was allegedly in possession of evidence of the crime.
