PHOENIX — Three people were killed in the Phoenix area in separate shootings by law enforcement officers on Friday and one police officer was hurt.

The first fatal shooting happened near the Loop 101 and Shea Boulevard in Scottsdale.

Police spokesman Sgt. Benjamin Hoster said special agents from the Department of Homeland Security attempted to arrest a suspect in a parking lot when the suspect allegedly pulled out a gun.

One of the agents opened fire. The suspect, whose name had not been released, was shot and killed.

The second fatal shooting took place near 43rd and Dunlap avenues. Details about the shooting were unclear, but it appeared there were two crime scenes, one of which was at a nearby O’Reilly’s Auto Parts store.

It appeared the suspect — a 44-year-old male with several outstanding felony warrants — and officers exchanged gunfire and the suspect fled. During the pursuit, a sergeant was hurt. That person was in stable condition as of Saturday morning, according to police.

The suspect was killed by officers after a tactical team attempted to take him or her into custody.

The third fatal shooting happened in at the Monte Vista Trailer Park Community, located near the Loop 202 and Baseline Road, in Mesa about 11 a.m.

The Mesa Police Department said officers were sent to arrest a 36-year-old male suspect, whose name was not released, who may have been involved in the murder a woman at a nail salon early last month.

When officers arrived, the suspect allegedly pulled a knife. He was shot with non-lethal beanbag rounds, but they had no effect.

The suspect allegedly advanced toward officers and one of them opened fire, killing the suspect.

Police were searching for a man who stabbed Lindsey Eastridge to death inside the Premier Nails & Spa near Ellsworth and Baseline roads about 7:15 p.m. on Feb. 2.

A motive for the murder was unknown.
