PHOENIX — Arizona’s economy certainly didn’t miss its shot during a nearly monthlong run of “Hamilton” at Arizona State University’s Gammage Auditorium.

In a press release, officials estimated the musical had a $50 million impact on the state’s economy, citing numbers from the Broadway League, a trade organization.

“More than 92,000 patrons from across the state, country – and patrons from as far away as Mexico, Canada and Sweden came through the doors at ASU Gammage during the ‘Hamilton’ engagement,” Colleen Jennings-Roggensack, Gammage’s executive director and ASU’s vice president for cultural affairs, said in the release.

There were 32 performances of the hit musical, meaning each show generated slightly more than $1.5 million in economic impact.

It wasn’t just the auditorium and nearby bars and restaurants that enjoyed an influx of cash.

Officials said retail shops, salons, transportation service and even babysitters make a little extra dough when shows roll through town.

Last year, Gammage was recognized as being one of the best businesses for the state after it pushed a facility-record $100 million into Arizona’s economy.

It was the first time the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed auditorium had such a sizable impact. The 32 sold-out performances of “Hamilton” will likely help beat that mark this year.

We want to hear from you.
