A shooting on the University of South Carolina’s campus in Columbia on Thursday was an apparent murder-suicide, police said.
Shots were reported at the university’s New School of Public Health. Roads in the area were closed off.
Students were told to shelter in place while police responded. They received a text alert about 12:15 p.m. Arizona time that there was “no longer an existing threat on campus.”
Police urged people in the surrounding area — including the nearby Statehouse — to be cautious.
Classes were canceled for the day and people were asked to stay clear of the area.
