PHOENIX — U.S. Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) released a statement Friday responding to President Donald Trump’s criticism of the FBI and Department of Justice.
“The latest attacks on the FBI and Department of Justice serve no American interests – no party’s, no president’s, only Putin’s,” the statement said. “The American people deserve to know all of the facts surrounding Russia’s ongoing efforts to subvert our democracy, which is why Special Counsel Mueller’s investigation must proceed unimpeded.”
The defense of the FBI and Department of Justice is a response to the president’s Twitter statements that called out the two agencies for partisan leadership.
The top Leadership and Investigators of the FBI and the Justice Department have politicized the sacred investigative process in favor of Democrats and against Republicans – something which would have been unthinkable just a short time ago. Rank & File are great people!

“If we continue to undermine our own rule of law, we are doing Putin’s job for him,” McCain responded.
The feud comes as the president agreed to declassify the GOP memo that details the potential biases of certain FBI and Justice Department officials in the Russia probe.
McCain has not returned to work in Washington D.C. since the holiday break as he continues his fight with an aggressive form of brain cancer.
His daughter, Meghan, has said Thursday that her father has made great strides.
“He had a sort of rough time at Christmas and he’s made this really crazy, amazing recovery, which I guess I shouldn’t be surprised at because he is so resilient in so many different ways,” Meghan McCain told “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.” (WARNING: LINK CONTAINS FOUL LANGUAGE)
