PHOENIX — Homeless individuals in the Phoenix-area will now have a place to wash their clothes for free, thanks to the expansion of an East Valley program.
The Tempe Interfaith Homeless Emergency Lodging Program has launched a mobile laundry trailer so that men and women who are a part of the program can wash their clothes.
The trailer has four washing machines and four driers. The program, also known as I-HELP, already provides homeless individuals with a trailer full of showers.
Deborah Arteaga, a spokeswoman with the program, said this development is important for these people because having dirty clothes is a huge obstacle to overcoming homelessness.
“It’s a barrier to being able to find and keep a job, maintaining appointments, interacting with others,” she said.
Arteaga said the trailer will travel to 11 churches in the East Valley that are part of the program and provide a place for the homeless to stay at night.
