Mechanical issues force American Airlines flight to return to Phoenix

PHOENIX – An American Airlines plane leaving Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport on Saturday was forced to return after experiencing mechanical issues, according to officials.
Flight 692 departed Phoenix just after 3 p.m. on Saturday en route to Honolulu, Hawaii.
The flight reportedly had 280 passengers and crew members that left Phoenix.
Shortly after takeoff, the pilot of the aircraft reported mechanical issues and said the flight had to turn around.
The plane headed back towards the Phoenix airport where Phoenix Fire Department rescue units were staged on the north runway.
According to officials, the aircraft landed safely at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport just before 4 p.m. and has returned to the gate.
An airlines spokesperson said 270 passengers would be booked onto other flights.
