PHOENIX — Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Yasmany Tomas was arrested Thursday morning for going more than 100 mph on a Valley freeway, the Arizona Department of Public Safety said.

Tomas was allegedly driving 105 mph on the northbound Loop 101. He was pulled over at 9:26 a.m. near Baseline Road on the border of Tempe and Mesa.

He was not impaired.

Tomas was charged with reckless driving and criminal speeding.

He was booked into the Fourth Avenue Jail and the 2015 Mercedes he was driving was impounded.

Arizona law states that a driver can be arrested for exceeding 35 mph near a school zone, 20 mph over the given speed limit or going faster than 85 mph on any road.

The maximum sentence for a criminal speeding charge — a Class 3 misdemeanor — in the state is up to 30 days in jail and a fine up to $500.

The guilty person’s license could also be suspended.

A reckless driving charge is issued when driver is operating a vehicle in an unsafe manner. That accusation can also lead to license suspension.

“We are very disappointed to learn of this news,” a team spokesman said. “We are still gathering facts, and will refrain from further comment at this time as this is a pending legal matter.”

Tomas, who was born in Cuba, signed a six-year, nearly $70 million contract with the D-backs in 2014.

In 2016, Tomas played 140 games, hit 31 home runs, batted .272 and drove in 83 RBIs.

Last season, Tomas only played 47 games due to a core injury, while having career lows in statistics such as batting average (.241) and OBP (.294).
