PHOENIX — Phoenix is considered to be a serious candidate for Apple’s newest campus, the Phoenix Business Journal reported on Wednesday.
According to the company’s statement, the campus will be a stepping stone in helping create more than 20,000 jobs and contributing $350 billion to the economy over the next five years. It will also pay $38 billion in repatriation tax payments.
“We believe deeply in the power of American ingenuity, and we are focusing our investments in areas where we can have a direct impact on job creation and job preparedness,” Apple CEO Tim Cook said in a statement.
“We have a deep sense of responsibility to give back to our country and the people who help make our success possible.”
Cities like Dallas, Florida, Atlanta and North Carolina are also rumored to be in the running.
Apple campuses, like the one in Cupertino, California, hold the most Apple employees.
While this new one won’t be considered the official second Apple campus, there are only a few located around the country. Inside the workings of the campuses are various departments that work on products as well as amenities for employees and visitors.
Initially, the next campus would be used for technical support, the company said in a statement.
The Valley could see a big influx of work as Phoenix, Chandler, Mesa, Tempe and Surprise all have a hat in the ring for Amazon’s second headquarters, or HQ2. Tucson is also involved.
The internet giant has said it would invest more than $5 billion into the new facility and it would bring about 50,000 jobs to whichever city it selects.
